Crafted in 3D ("we", "us", "our") is a 3D printing, design, and machining business in North Charleston, South Carolina. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this site or place an order, why we collect it, and what choices you have.
What we collect
When you request a quote or contact us
- Your name, email address, and phone number
- The project details, notes, and messages you send
- Any files you upload: 3D models, drawings, photos, reference material
When you place an order
- Billing name and contact details
- Shipping address, if the order is shipped
- Order history and correspondence about your job
If you create an account
- Your email address, name, and a password, which we store hashed, plus your phone number if you add one
- The IP address and browser of each sign-in
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. You enter your card details directly with Stripe on a secure Stripe-hosted form. We receive confirmation that the payment succeeded and the amount paid. The card type and last four digits are visible to us inside our Stripe account, and we do not copy them into our own records. We never receive or store your full card number, expiry, or security code. Stripe's handling of your information is covered by Stripe's privacy policy. When you choose shipping, your address is entered on Stripe's page and stored with your order.
When you visit the site
- Standard server logs: IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps, kept for security and troubleshooting
- Our own visit counter runs on our server and sets no cookies, so blocking cookies does not turn it off. It records the page viewed, the site and page that linked you here, and any ad or campaign tag on that link. It records your screen width and whether it is a touch screen, your device type, browser and operating system, and your approximate location (down to city). It records whether you started or sent a form, or clicked an email link, a phone link or the Get a Quote button in the menu. On the quote page and the payment confirmation page it also records the steps you take: the material, finish and quantity you pick, the price shown, and whether an item you add is an instant-priced part or a custom item. There it also records the reason when a file goes to a custom quote, your order number when you place an order, and the amount when you pay online. Visits are counted with a one-way code, made from your IP address and browser, that changes every day. The counter is not sent your name, email or files, and it does not store your IP address.
- Google Analytics 4 records the pages you view, your approximate location (down to city), and your device and browser. These are tied to a random ID kept in a cookie for up to two years. It also records the steps you take on the quote page and the payment confirmation page. These include the material you pick, the price or order total shown, your order number when you place an order, and the payment reference when you pay online. It is also told when you send a contact form. We do not send Google your name, email or files, and we do not sell this data. This is used only to understand how the site is used. Google acts as our processor, and its use of the data is governed by Google's policies.
Cookies
The site uses only what it needs to function, plus first-party analytics. It does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not run a cookie banner. We are a small business running analytics only, with no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies to ask your permission for. Everything the site does set is disclosed on this page. The quote page keeps your unfinished quote in your browser's own storage, so you can come back to it. It keeps the parts in your order and their options until you send or clear the order. It keeps a part you have not added to your order for up to 24 hours after its last price. It keeps the files you uploaded for up to 7 days. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them. Nothing in that storage is sent anywhere except to our server, to price your order and to place it. Google Analytics 4 sets its own first-party cookies to measure visits; you can block these in your browser settings without breaking the site. Account pages set a security cookie, signing up sets a notice cookie that lasts 10 seconds, and signing in sets a sign-in cookie that lasts 30 days.
How we use your information
- To prepare quotes and answer your questions
- To produce, package, and deliver your order
- To take payment and record it
- To keep business, warranty, and tax records
- To improve the site and our service
- To contact you about your order, or, if you have asked us to, about future work
We do not use your information for advertising and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
We share the minimum necessary with service providers who help us run the business:
- Stripe: payment processing
- Shipping carriers (such as USPS, UPS, FedEx): to deliver shipped orders
- Google Workspace: our email, including the order emails our quote system sends
- Microsoft OneDrive: holds a copy of job files and order paperwork, and our encrypted backups
- Google Analytics: as described above
- Cloudflare: the bot check on our forms. When a form loads, Cloudflare's check sees your IP address and signals from your browser, such as its user agent and connection fingerprint, to tell a person from a script. Cloudflare also uses them to improve the check. It is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
The site and our order system run on our own server.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.
Your uploaded files
Files you send are used to quote and to make your part. They are not resold, published, or shared beyond what is needed to produce your order. We keep them with your quote and order records until you ask us to delete them; email [email protected]. Files for an order can be deleted once the order is complete and the 7-day acceptance window in our Terms of Service has passed.
We may show photographs of finished work in our portfolio unless you ask us in writing not to. Work done under an NDA is kept out of the portfolio automatically.
How long we keep it
- Quote, order, and invoice records: kept for seven years for tax and warranty purposes
- Uploaded files: kept with the quote, order or request they came with until you ask us to delete them. Files for an order can be deleted once the order is complete and the 7-day acceptance window in our Terms has passed.
- Deleted files and backups: a file we delete is taken out of the job folder at once. It is held in a trash for 30 days, then purged. Backups are not edited, so a deleted copy ages out of them on its own. A deleted file is out of them within 12 months, and a deleted order or contact record within about 5 months. The backup archives we keep off site are encrypted
- Email: files and messages you email us stay in our mailbox until we delete them, then for 30 days in Trash
- Visit statistics: our own visit counter clears the one-way visitor code stored with each visit after 30 days. The page-view records themselves are kept, without that code
- Marketing contact preferences: until you opt out
Your choices and rights
- Access or correction: email us to see or fix the information we hold about you
- Deletion: ask us to delete your files and personal information; we will do so unless we are required to keep certain records (for example, tax records for a completed order)
- Marketing: you can opt out of any non-transactional email at any time
- Analytics: block analytics cookies in your browser, or use a browser or extension that does so
If you are in a jurisdiction with specific data-protection rights, contact us and we will work with you in good faith to honor them.
Children
This site and our services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS for the whole site and a payment processor that keeps card data off our systems entirely. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take it seriously.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always on this page with its "last updated" date. Significant changes will be noted here.
