Best for
- Coil bodies and lamp sockets
- Connectors and high-frequency insulators
Not the right choice for
- Parts that take hard knocks: PPSU is the tougher sulfone
- Outdoor parts in direct sun
- Contact with aromatic solvents, ketones such as acetone and MEK, or ethers while under load
Key properties
| Tensile strength | 52 MPa |
|---|---|
| Heat deflection | 172 C at 0.45 MPa |
| Glass transition | about 187 C |
What to use instead
- PPSU (Polyphenylsulfone) when the part takes real impact as well as heat and steam.
- PES (Polyethersulfone) when the temperature requirement runs past what PSU holds.
- Polycarbonate (PC) when the heat requirement turns out to be milder than expected.
The FDM material selector narrows the whole range by operating temperature, load, chemical exposure, and budget.
