PVDF (Fluoropolymer)

PVDF is a fluoropolymer built for chemical and UV exposure rather than heat: it resists most strong acids, fuels and sunlight.

Best for

  • Tower packing for distillation and scrubbing columns
  • Mist eliminators

It also suits:

  • Fixtures, trays and guards around hot acid baths

Not the right choice for

  • Hot structural parts
  • Strong bases (pH 12 and above), amines, or polar solvents such as acetone and ethyl acetate

Key properties

Tensile strength40 to 51 MPa
Heat deflection158 C at 0.45 MPa
FlammabilityUL94 V-0 at 1.5 mm

What to use instead

  • PEEK when the part needs real load-bearing strength at high heat rather than chemical resistance, in the carbon-filled grade.
  • PPS when the exposure is fuels or solvents rather than strong acids or chlorine, and the part also needs to run hot.
  • ASA when the chemical and UV exposure turns out to be mild after all.
  • Polypropylene (PP) when the chemical is caustic soda or acetone, which attack PVDF.

The FDM material selector narrows the whole range by operating temperature, load, chemical exposure, and budget.
